Mark Brugh is a Washington County, Maryland–based historian, writer, and public speaker whose work focuses on the human stories that linger around America’s most hallowed ground. He has spent years researching the Antietam battlefield and surrounding communities, collecting firsthand accounts, local legends, archival material, and overlooked personal histories connected to the battle and its aftermath.

Brugh serves on the board of a local historical museum and has presented lectures throughout the region on Civil War history, memory, and preservation. His work blends careful historical research with a deep respect for the people—soldiers, families, and civilians—whose lives were shaped by the war.

The Ghosts of Antietam is his third book with The History Press and reflects his ongoing commitment to preserving local history and bringing new audiences to one of America’s most important historic landscapes.
